چکیده

The invasive pest, Spodoptera frugiperda, commonly known as the fall armyworm (FAW), is a serious threat to food security in multiple countries worldwide. Insects’ antennal sensilla play crucial role perceiving plant odors and communication between male female insects. This study aimed examine morphology variations on antennae of FAW larvae adults through scanning electron microscope analysis. results revealed that third fifth instar larval possessed smell pores, pegs, five types sensilla, namely trichodea, basiconica, chaetica, campaniform, styloconicum, pores were first observed Lepidoptera larvae. Furthermore, size was significantly greater than those instar. On adult antennae, there 12 identified: basicaonica, auricillica, cavity, placodea, ligulate, Böhm’s bristles, squamous, coeloconica, uniporous peg. Notably, peg, discovered adults. Compared with larvae, have more amounts sensilla. Additionally, we also discussed possible functions these provides valuable information for comprehensive understanding type function assists development novel pest control strategies, such behavior technology, prevention this pest.

Visual and Gustatory Responses of Spodoptera Frugiperda (lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Larvae to Artificial Food Dyes

Visual and gustatory responses of Spodoptera frugiperda Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) larvae to artificial food dyes were studied. The objective was to determine the ability of these substances to attract and elicit feeding of insect larvae to assess their feasibility for improving the efficacy of ingested insecticides. The artificial food dyes lemon green, lemon yellow, orange red, chlorophy...

Bioactivity of Carica papaya (Caricaceae) against Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

The composition of a chloroform seed extract of C. papaya was determined by GC-MS. Nineteen compounds were identified, with oleic (45.97%), palmitic (24.1%) and stearic (8.52%) acids being the main components. The insecticidal and insectistatic activities of the extract and the three main constituents were tested. Larval duration increased by 3.4 d and 2.5 d when the extract was used at 16,000 ...

Mortality Dynamics of Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Immatures in Maize

We characterized the dynamics of mortality factors affecting immature developmental stages of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Multiple decrement life tables for egg and early larval stages of S. frugiperda in maize (Zea mays L.) fields were developed with and without augmentative releases of Telenomus remus Nixon (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) from...

Oil-soluble dyes for marking Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

Although various biological aspects of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) have been examined, adult movement and dispersal of this insect pest is not well understood. Release-recapture techniques by using marked insects is a useful approach for dispersal studies; however, the marking technique should not significantly affect insect biology or behavior. Therefore, the ef...

Colonization of rice and Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) larvae by genetically modified endophytic Methylobacterium mesophilicum.

The colonization of Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith larvae and rice seedlings by genetically modified endophytic bacterium Methylobacterium mesophilicum, and also the possible transfer of this bacterium to inside the larva's body during seedlings consumption were studied. The data obtained by bacterial reisolation and fluorescence microscopy showed that the bacterium colonized the rice seedlin...
